Voters gave state legislators approval to consider creating an early in-person voting system in Connecticut. In his victory speech Tuesday night, Gov. Ned Lamont said if voters approved changing the state constitution to allow it, the 2023 General Assembly will be authorized to draft legislation that would implement an early voting system. It could potentially be in place as early as 2024. Voters defeated a similar proposal in 2014.
U.S Senator Richard Blumenthal was re-elected for a third term yesterday. Democrat Blumenthal was able to defeat Republican challenger Leora Levy. In the 5th Congressional District, against Democrat Jahana Hayes and Republican George Logan is still too close to call. Democrat Joe Courtney beat Republican Mike France for the 2nd District US House of Representatives position.
Five families were displaced after a fire in Hartford on Monday night. Crews were called to 106 Jefferson Street and found heavy flames coming through the second floor of the building. Sixteen people were displaced due to the fire, no injuries were reported. Officials said that the fire started on the second floor after an electrical multi wire connector was likely overloaded
Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in Hartford on Monday night. Officers say that 46 year old Chester Gaston of West Hartford was shot multiple times in the area of 135 Nelson Street. Gaston was brought to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The shooting remains under investigation.
Democratic Attorney General William Tong was re-elected yesterday over Republican Challenger Jessica Kordas. In the race for Comptroller of the State, Democrat Sean Scanion beat out Republican Mary Fay. Democrat Stephanie Thomas also beat out Republican Dominic Rapini to be Secretary of the State. Democrat Eric Russell was elected state treasurer.
