Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, the potential top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, will not need to undergo surgery on his foot, per the advice of his doctors. Tests revealed Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine that Carter had sustained a stress reaction in his right foot, and was considering surgery.

Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said Thursday via EPSN: “I couldn’t be more confident that this will be a non-factor where he’s drafted. He will put on a show at his pro day.” Carter will work out at Penn State’s pro day March 28.

Carter is also recovering from a shoulder injury, and told reporters Wednesday that he was about 90% healthy – without mentioning the foot injury. He said he expects to be “really close to 100%” in the next month. and made his case for being picked No. 1 in April’s draft: “I feel like I’m the best player in the country, and the best player should be picked first. It’s the work I put in with my dad, who trained me, and all the sacrifices I made. I know I’m the best.”

Carter appeared in all 42 of Penn State’s games over his three-year collegiate tenure as a unanimous All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He led the country with 24 tackles for loss as well as 12 sacks and 68 combined tackles over 16 appearances last season for the Nittany Lions.
