The New York Jets have signed veteran QB Tim Boyle to a one-year deal.   According to multiple sources, despite the Boyle signing, the Jets continue to be in talks to acquire Aaron Rodgers as he “intends” to play for the club in 2023.

In 2018, Boyle signed with the Green Bay Packers and became the team’s third-string quarterback behind Rodgers and then backup DeShone Kizer. He spent three seasons in Green Bay (2018-20), when Jets offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett was the offensive coordinator in Green Bay. Boyle appeared in 11 games over that span, throwing just four passes, completing three for 15 yards.

Then Boyle moved on to another NFC North organization as he signed with the Lions in 2021 as back up QB to Jared Goff. Boyle started three games that year in place of Goff and passed for 526 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions during that span. Boyle was waived by the Lions after final cuts in 2022 but was placed on the team’s practice squad. The Bears signed Boyle off the Lions’ practice squad late last season and he appeared in one game for Chicago.

As part of the Jets, Boyle will join Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft, and Chris Streveler, who was on the team’s practice squad until last season. While Wilson will be the Jets’ No. 2 quarterback, Boyle is expected to provide veteran leadership for NY.
