NEW YORK - DEC 8: The Heisman trophy during a press conference before the 84th Heisman Trophy Ceremony on December 8^ 2018 at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City.

The Heisman Trophy Trust announced in a televised ceremony on Saturday evening that Colorado wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter has won the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

In his acceptance speech, Hunter thanked God, his parents, his girlfriend, his teammates, his coaches, his teachers and even Colorado supporter Lil Wayne: “I’m shocked to be on this stage right now.”

Hunter, 21, received 552 of 901 first-place votes — narrowly beating out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (309), Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (24) and Miami quarterback Cam Ward (6) for the honor. Hunter edged out Jeanty in total points 2,231 – 2,017, and becomes the second Buffaloes player to win the trophy (joining running back Rashaan Salaam in 1994).

Colorado’s two-way superstar – the projected top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft – has awed fans with his cornerback and wide receiver skills during his college football career.  Hunter is second-most in receiving scores (14), fourth-most catches (92) and sixth-most receiving yards (1,152) through 12 appearances this season as a wide receiver.

Hunter also received 2024 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. He also won the Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation’s most versatile player, for the second-consecutive season. He was the first player in college football history to be named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top pass catcher, and the Bednarik Award, which is given to the top defensive player in the country.
