Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns has come to an end, as the team will complete a major trade deal to send the veteran forward to the Houston Rockets in return for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks (the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft) and five future second-round selections.

ESPN’s Shams Charania was first to report the news, writing on X: “BREAKING: The Phoenix Suns are trading two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks”

Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the deal will not be finalized until July 6 due to a restriction in Green’s rookie extension, which he signed last October. NBA insider Jake Fischer added that the second-round picks in the trade will stretch to 2032.

Durant, 36, found out about the trade’s completion while appearing at Fanatics Fest in New York, where he said: “Being part of the Houston Rockets, I’m looking forward to it. It’s a crazy, crazy couple weeks, but I’m glad it’s over with,” adding that the Suns asked him where he preferred to be traded: “I gave them some of my destinations, and here we are.”  Rumors in recent weeks said the Rockets, Heat and Spurs were his preferred destinations.

Durant will enter his 18th NBA season performing at a high level;  he posted averages of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting an efficient 52.7% from the floor and 43% from beyond the arc in 2024-25.
