CAPT. Elkana (Kuno) Cohen, author of OCT 7: The War Against Hamas Through the Eyes of an Israeli Commando Officer, is a reserve commando officer.
He was born in Jerusalem and raised in Yeruham as the eldest of seven siblings. His dad is an educator and his mom leads the nursing department at Ben Gurion University. His military journey began in the Shaldag Unit before moving to the Duvdevan Unit, completing his training there and continuing to officers' school. He eventually became a team commander, both in his unit and at the officers' training school.
He met his future wife, Shiran, while they were both serving in the same military unit. The couple settled in Ra'anana, where Elkana launched a business focused on training kids and teens and he started giving lectures
on the value of meaningful service.
He is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in Real Estate and Appraisals and serves as a commando officer in the reserves. During the Swords of Iron War, he was deployed with the 551st Brigade in Northern Gaza.
